The Educational Administration program at Ohio State is a leadership program training the country’s future school district superintendents, school principals and leaders who are moving education forward.
As one of the premiere programs in the United States, you’ll learn from Educational Administration faculty members who have extensive research and in-the-field experience giving you a distinct advantage as a leader in education.
You’ll learn about leadership and communication. You’ll understand the nuts and bolts of how a school district or school operates – from leading efforts that result in improved student achievement, human relations and decision-making to building systems such as heating, ventilation and air-conditioning.
Additionally, the Educational Administration program is a proud member of two prestigious organizations. The University Council for Educational Administration is a consortium of more than 100 higher education institutions committed to advancing the preparation and practice of educational leaders for the benefit of schools and children. And members of the Carnegie Project on the Education Doctorate work collaboratively to improve professional preparation and research in the educational doctorate.
Students who pursue our program reflect several qualities that leaders possess. They are energetic, courageous, lifelong learners of education and passionate. They are influencers at every level and the type of person others want to follow.
To be considered for one of our programs in Educational Administration, you will be articulate in expressing your views and demonstrate a high level of achievement at the undergraduate level. If you’re interested in our accelerated principal or superintendent licensure, nomination by your superintendent also is necessary to apply for this highly selective programs.
Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Studies, Educational Administration
The PhD program in Educational Administration prepares you for a career as a university professors or a researcher. It emphasizes theory, research and practice, and how they are interrelated. Research areas are numerous and include: governance, employee relations, technology, budget and finance, collective bargaining and more.
Doctor of Education in Educational Studies, Educational Administration
The Doctor of Education in Educational Administration, a member of the Carnegie Project on the Education Doctorate, helps advance your professional skills in education as a school leader. You will learn how to apply both theory and practice while collaborating with school district administrators and teachers on a variety of critical problems. The program culminates in a field research project to solve real problems facing schools today.
Master of Arts in Educational Studies, Educational Administration
A Master of Arts in Educational Administration advances you to become a leader in school districts and other educational organizations. This degree can be combined with licensure programs for principals and superintendents.
Accelerated Licensure Program for Principals
The Accelerated Licensure Program prepares the next generation of principals to lead in our nation’s schools. The 15-month program is an engaging curriculum and mentorship with faculty and practicing principals. You must be nominated by a superintendent to apply to this highly selective program.
Self-paced Licensure Program for Principals
The Self-paced Licensure Program for Principals allows you to complete principal training and licensure at a pace that accommodates your busy teaching schedule.
Licensure Program for Superintendents
A one-year accelerated program is designed for educational leaders with a demonstrated record of success who seek to become school district superintendents or district-level executive leaders. The learning experience in the program involves university and field mentorship. Nomination is required by a superintendent to be considered for this highly selective program.
Teacher Leader Endorsement
The teacher leader endorsement is for the classroom teacher who wants to be a master teacher and fulfills one of the requirements to obtain the Lead Professional Educator License, the highest licensing credential a teacher can achieve in the state. As a master teacher, you mentor and coach other teachers as well as be a leader in schools and of school initiatives.
