From understanding what s expected of  you, to passing all the required test, this guide covers everything step by step.

Step 1 – Meet All The Arizona Real Estate Agent Requirements

The first step to become a real estate agent in Arizona is to understand and meet all of the State of Arizona Department of Real Estate requirements. To meet those requirements you must:

  • Not have had any real estate license denied within the last year
  • Not have had any real estate license revoked within two years
  • Be 18 years of age or older

Step 2   Find A Arizona Real Estate School

You must complete 90 hours of “in classroom” real estate salesperson pre-licensing education through a Arizona Department of Real Estate approved school to become a real estate agent in Arizona.

To find a Arizona Department of Real Estate approved school you can use their online school search engine HERE .

Step 3 –  Get An Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card

The next step to become a real estate agent in Arizona is to obtain an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card by completing a Department of Public Safety (DPS) application packet. You can get a packet HERE  or by contacting DPS via phone (602)-223-2279 or Fax (602)223-2947. Once you complete the application you can mail it to DPS at:

DPS

PO BOX 18290

Phoenix, AZ 85005

It will cost $69.00 to process your fingerprint card. It’s important to do this early because fingerprint cards can take 5 to 8 weeks to process. You will need one to become a real estate agent in Arizona.

You can also obtain an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card and be fingerprinted at a real estate school or an outside fingerprinting facility authorized to do fingerprinting.  The fingerprint card cannot be bent, folded or damaged in anyway or it may be rejected.

Step 4 – Pass The School Final Examination

After you complete your 90 hours of “in classroom” real estate sales person pre-licensing education through an approved school, you will have to take a school final examination to become a real estate agent in Arizona.

Most schools will offer review courses to help you pass the test. Once you pass the school test you will receive a certification of completion or exam score report to present to the Arizona Department of Real Estate.

Step 5 – Pass The Arizona State National Real Estate Exam

After you pass your school exam, you should register and pass the state and national exam to become a real estate agent in Arizona. To register for and pass the state and national exam go to http://www.pearsonvue.com/az/realestate/  or call 1-888-405-5776.

The Arizona State National Real Estate exam has 80 questions and 10% of those questions involve real estate math.  See an outline of the Arizona State National Real Estate Exam HERE .

Step 6 – Take The 6 Hour Introduction to Contract Writing Course

The Arizona Department of Real Estate requires that those who want to become a real estate in Arizona must complete a 6 hour course entitled Introduction to Contract Writing .  This course will help you write contracts, which is an important part of becoming a real estate agent.

Once you pass this class, you will receive a certificate of completion which is required to apply for a license to become an Arizona real estate agent.

Step 7 – Apply For an Arizona Real Estate License

Once you pass the Arizona State Real Estate Exam, you will be issued a passing score report. This report will be your application for licensure and will be issued at the test site.  You must apply for a license within one year of passing the examination to become a real estate agent in Arizona.

In order to apply for your license, the following will be required:

  • Original Salesperson Application Fee
  • Original Arizona State Exam Score Report(s)
  • Proof of Legal Residency
  • Pre-licensure Education Certificate
  • Original Licensure Questionnaire* (LI-214)
  • DPS issued AZ Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Contract Writing Course Certificate
  • Disclosure Document Checklist Form (LI-400)  *if applicable

If any of the above documents are missing your application to become a real estate in Arizona will not be processed. For more details see The State of Arizona Real Estate Candidate Handbook .

Step 8 Hire On With A Broker

The final step to becoming a real estate agent in Arizona is to hire on with a Broker.

Once you find a broker that fits your career needs and personality, you must notify the Arizona Department of  Real Estate by completing the Hire as a Salesperson Form (Complete form LI-202)   or hire on with a Broker online for a reduced fee.

To complete the process online, log in to the online licensing system at https://az.gov/webapp/dre/
