Substance Abuse Services
Tri-County s Substance Abuse Program offers Intensive outpatient treatment; providing education for intervention and prevention to adults and adolescents whose lives have been affected by drugs/alcohol.
Because drug addication disorders and mental disorders often occur in the same individual, assessment and treatment for the co-occurrence is offered through an integrated program.
Substance Abuse Treatment Program
Adult Outpatient Treatment
Adult Outpatient Treatment Services focuses on persons who do not need detoxification or structured residential treatment services to facilitate recovery. All treatment is provided by Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselors and services are designed for adults who can benefit from an outpatient program that meets 2 to 3 times per week, for about 13 weeks. Individuals must be 18 years of age or older, and who need treatment to overcome a history of substance abuse and dependency. Persons are often identified as a result on negative impact of substance abuse in their family relationships, ability to hold jobs, problems with interpersonal conflict, and often encounters with law enforcement and the courts. The treatment follows the state approved Evidence Based Practice (EBP) Matrix model, which emphasizes abstinence from all mind altering chemicals, and utilization of behavior modification techniques to maintain sobriety and improved overall social functioning. Participants in the program are drug and alcohol tested on a regular basis to ensure compliance. Tri-County encourages family involvement, education and support and provides family night sessions so that families can participate in their family member s treatment.
Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselors provides this special service for persons with both a substance abuse and psychiatric disorder. It is provided as an adjunct service for those adults receiving outpatient substance abuse treatment. The normal service is weekly, one-hour individual counseling session and emphasizes an integrated treatment , where both disorders are seen as primary issues that must be treated and recognized for their relationship to recovery. In addition to counseling, case management services are offered to ensure the individual can utilize a variety of community services to enhance the treatment outcomes.
Youth Outpatient Treatment
Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselors work with youth, 13 to 17 years of age, who have been identified as having chemical dependency problems. Many of the youth have been recognized in school settings as having school attendance and performance problems that have resulted from substance abuse. Some of the youth are served by juvenile detention and juvenile probation services, and are trying to improve their lives to avoid future involvement with courts and law enforcement. For those youth who do not require a more structured treatment and living environment, our programs provide a brief, but intensive, outpatient model. Individual and group treatment sessions provide Motivational Enhancement Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. It is strongly encouraged that there is family involvement in the treatment, and Tri-County will provide additional services such as parent support and education groups, family counseling, and case management. Our services have been delivered in our Riverpointe location in Conroe, and we are now offering some additional services in Huntsville. Participants in the program have stated that they learned not to do drugs and to maintain healthy friendships. Participants also said the program, made people very happy and realized they are not alone. It is anticipated that services will be expanded to other parts of our three county service area in the next few months, based on an identified need and referral system in those areas.
Certified Prevention Specialists work with area schools and community agencies to present a state approved substance abuse prevention curriculum. Children are identified by school counselors, principals, and other community agency leaders because they have defined risk factors that make them high risk for substance abuse in the future. A school counselor said, of the program, I have witnessed students staying calm and staying out of fights after participating in the Substance Abuse Prevention Group. Children are divided into a younger school age population and an older teenager population. The curriculum that is taught to these groups is age appropriate, and is taught to groups of children at their school or other selected community site. The program is taught once per week for ten weeks, and there is a selected topic for each session. In addition to providing crucial education on such things as peer pressure, handling anger and making healthy choices, there are coping and social skills taught that provides crucial emotional support needed to reduce anti-social and rebellious behavior. At the end of the training course, students will be encouraged to sign a commitment card that states they will not use alcohol until they are at least 21 years of age, and that they will not ever use tobacco or other drugs. Additionally, all the youth are encouraged and taught to learn alternative activities that provide an opportunity for drug and tobacco free experiences that form health options for future peer interactions. School Counselors have called this program valuable and a great opportunity for our students.
