How to Find Wheels That Fit

Taking proper measurements is the single most important thing that you have to do when getting new wheels for your car. When it comes to wheels, size makes all the difference.

Why is it important to get wheels of the right size?

Wheels that don’t fit or that are the wrong size can negatively affect the performance of your vehicle. They could disrupt the timing of your transmission system and could interfere with handling.

Wrong size wheels can also damage the wheels themselves, the tires, and even your fenders and wheel wells.

Of course, there’s also the fact that wrong size wheels look weird. Instead of improving your car’s appearance, they make it look odd.

What to consider when choosing wheel sizes?

Ideally, you should replace your old wheels with those that are of the exact same size. If you do want to upgrade, however, you have to consider several things.

You have to think about how you’re going to use your car and in what conditions. Big wheels, for example, are not ideal for a vehicle that’s meant to be taken off-roading.

You then have to think about how bigger wheels will affect the performance of your vehicle. Bigger wheels usually give your car better handling characteristics at the expense of ride comfort.

Of course, there’s also the issue of cost. Bigger wheels cost more than smaller wheels, so you have to consider whether upsizing your wheels is really worth it.

How to get wheels of the correct size?

There are a lot of measurements that you have to take note of when looking to get new wheels. The most important number you have to consider is the wheel’s diameter. Usually measured in inches, this number refers to the length of the wheel from the top, through the center, and down to the bottom. Think of it as the longest line that you could fit inside of the circle.

Then you have to consider width. Bigger wheels are also usually wider. To make it simple, the industry standard is to add an inch to the width for every additional inch in the wheel’s diameter. For example, if you have wheels with a diameter of 15 inches and a width of 7 inches, the ideal upgrade would be wheels with a diameter of 16 inches and a width of 8 inches. This is known as the plus sizing concept.

What to look for in wheels?

You have to consider the material the wheels are made of. Steel rims, for example, are stronger than aluminum wheels but are also much heavier.

Finally, we recommend that you get wheels that are made by reputable brands. This will ensure that you get high-quality products that are reliable and durable.
